Photography
In this class, students will be taught the foundations of photography. Students will learn all about how to use a digital slr camera with the focus being on the specific settings of the camera. The student will also learn about proper composition and rules of photography. Students will be taught about proper lighting and how to use it to accurately capture their subject. There will be various lessons each nine weeks that will focus on one specific aspect of photography, such as aperture or shutter speed. There will also be lessons that have a common theme or concept. We will also work with the artistic community around us in various capacities. Students will then learn about the basics of photo manipulation, work with 35MM, and video. By the end of the year the students will be expected to come up with a series of their own photography that focuses on a particular theme or concept.
Middle School Art Courses
Students will be exposed to a wide variety of art forms and media throughout this school year. We will spend the beginning of the year with focusing on drawing techniques that will build the students ability. These lessons will include contour drawing, perspective, and grid-based drawing. The lessons will incorporate the various techniques including blending, shading, and rendering. We will then spend some time in different medias of art, using both traditional and non-traditional methods. These various media and methods will have cultural and/or historical references and will align with the Alabama Course of Study and Content Standards. Examples will be projects such as Japanese Block Printmaking and Claus Oldenburg Pop Art Sculptures. We will also spend some time working with our art digitally towards the end of the school year. Students will also be required to participate in weekly reflections that will be done through google classroom. These reflections will be posted at the end of each week covering content relevant to the instruction done during that particular week.
High School Art Courses
Students will be exposed to a wide variety of art forms and media throughout this school year. Building upon previously taught content, the beginning of the school year will be focused on mostly on drawing and the review of techniques that were previously learned. The students will then work in a variety of different art media and forms with each lesson focusing on their own unique style and aesthetic. The focus will be for the student to begin looking at their own work in a more mature and professional way. All the lessons taught will be align with the Alabama Course of Study and Content Standards. This class will prepare the students for higher level art classes as well as post-secondary opportunities with various universities and art institutes. Level 2 students will receive modification with more advanced and portfolio intense themed lessons.
