On February 8th, 2024, Shane Alexander was appointed as Athletic Director. With an impressive track record in athletics and a passion for student success, Alexander brings a wealth of experience and a commitment to excellence to this position.
In 2019, after 21 years at Hartselle High School, Coach Alexander joined Orange Beach Middle High School as part of the inaugural staff. Under his leadership, the softball program at Orange Beach achieved historic success, becoming the first school in AHSAA history to win a State Championship in their first year of varsity competition in 2021. The Makos continued their dominance, winning State Championships in 2022 and 2023 and compiling a remarkable 112-28 record while securing three consecutive state titles.
Alexander's coaching career began at Hartselle High School, where he played a pivotal role in multiple State Championship teams, including as an assistant coach for the 2000 Baseball and 2011 Football teams. As head coach of the softball team, he led them to a State Championship in 2003 and a Runner-Up finish in 2008, amassing an impressive 240 wins in just six years.
Coach Alexander is a 1986 graduate of Hartselle High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Army. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from the University of South Alabama in 1997 and later obtained a master’s degree in physical education from Jacksonville State University.
Beyond his professional achievements, Shane Alexander is a devoted family man. He has been married to his wife, Shelly, for the past 27 years, and they are proud parents of two boys, Scout and Sebastian (Seb).
In addition to his new role, Coach Alexander will continue to serve as the Head Softball Coach for Orange Beach City Schools.
