National English Honors Society
The National English Honor Society is the only discipline-specific high school honor society for students with interests and talents in English and related fields such as linguistics and literature, creative writing, drama and theatre, media and communication, and journalism. NEHS not only celebrates students’ academic abilities but also unlocks a world of benefits and opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom.
The National English Honor Society (NEHS) is open to secondary students in grades 10-12 who have demonstrated exceptional ability in such areas as literary analysis, media studies, composition, linguistic study, and creative writing, and who meet the requirements of membership.
Membership in NEHS is an honor bestowed on individuals selected for their accomplishments in the field of English and in overall academic achievement.
The NEHS Consitution sets forth as minimum requirements for active membership the following:

Be a sophomore, junior, or senior.

Have attended Orange Beach Middle High School for the equivalent of one semester prior to being considered, or have been a member of the ELA Honor Society in his or her final year of middle school. If special circumstances merit, the Faculty Advisory Council may waive the semester regulation.

Completed the equivalent of two semesters of English prior to consideration as members

Achieved a minimum overall unweighted grade point average of a 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) to be considered for membership.

Achieved a minimum English unweighted grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale), including college level courses (designated with AP or college course number) to be considered for membership.

An exemplary character record. Clean high school disciplinary record including no plagiarism violations.

Demonstrate an enthusiasm for language arts.
